GOVERNOR Ramon Guico III will lead the commemoration of the 78th Lingayen Gulf landings and 16th Pangasinan Veterans Day on January 9 at the Capitol Complex in Lingayen.

The annual event memorializes the landing of the Allied Liberation Forces led by General Douglas Mac Arthur in the shores of Lingayen Gulf on January 9, 1945 that signaled the start of the liberation of Luzon from the Japanese occupation forces

Rev. Fr. Emil A. Soriano of the Epiphany of Our Lord Co-Cathedral Parish will officiate the thanksgiving mass at 7:00 a.m., to be followed by a symbolic wreath-laying ceremony.

A highlight of the commemoration program is the opening of the “War of our Fathers”- A Brotherhood of Heroes” photo exhibit, a project in partnership with the Philippine Veterans Bank and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office.

Guico said the occasion will honor the bravery, sacrifice, and patriotism of Filipino soldiers, particularly Pangasinan guerillas of World War II, other freedom fighters and present-day heroes

Pangasinan Veteran’s Day was institutionalized as a yearly commemorative event through Provincial Ordinance No. 331-2007 passed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. (PIA)
