MOST FIRECRACKER VICTIMS IN PANGASINAN

THE New Year revelry in Region 1 was generally peaceful and orderly notwithstanding Department of Health-Center of Health Development’s report that there were 28 victims of firecracker explosions treated in various hospitals as of January 3, 2023.

This was the report of P/Brig. General John Chua, PNP region 1 director, who attributed the situation to the combined efforts of the PNP, DOH, other law enforcement agencies, local government units and the communities that supported the government’s campaign against the use of illegal firecrackers.

There was only one case of indiscriminate, illegal discharge of firearm by a policeman in Mangatarem and who has been relieved of his post at the regional office.

He said as of January 3, 8:00 a.m., the DOH-CHD 1 recorded 28 fireworks-related cases (18 in Pangasinan, four in La Union, and two each in Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) shared the observation of the regional office. P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, Pangasinan police director, that the province recorded 18 incidents involving firecracker explosion but injuries were considered minor.

Fanged added no crimes against property were reported during the revelry period but there were a number of vehicular accidents involving drunk motorcycle riders, some of whom were not wearing helmets.

PRO 1 mobilized joint 5,152 personnel from PNP, Coast Guard, AFP and advocacy groups to monitor peace and order situation in the region, Brig. General Chua said.

He said the Region 1 police maximized police presence on the streets, churches and in other places of convergence and firecracker zones to ensure the peaceful revelry.  (Leonardo Micua, Ahikam Pasion)
