THIRTY tribe members from the Indigenous Peoples (IP) in Malico, San Nicolas town have been registered by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) during a special satellite voter registration.

Gina Aquino, COMELEC San Nicolas election officer, said the regionwide simultaneous special satellite registration launched on January 14 targeted to the vulnerable sector, and members of the IPs in their respective areas.

This is the COMELEC’s second special voters’ registration in the community that targets IP members. The first was held last July 2022 and registered 23 voters.

This January 14, seven new voters were registered, where five of them applied for transfer, while two asked for correction of entries.

Aquino said despite the low number, the program was considered a success considering the distance covered from the mountainous barangay of Malico to the town proper. (Ahikam Pasion)
