NEWLY elected Calasiao Mayor Mamilyn ‘Maya’ Caramat, was laid to rest on Wednesday, January 18 at the town’s Garden of Eden Memorial Park after a necrological mass at the St. Peter and Paul Parish Church officiated by Archbishop Socrates Villegas.

Leading the funeral cortege that moved solemnly were members of her immediate family:  husband, newly-appointed CIDG Director P/BGen Romeo Caramat, son Patrick, and daughter Kimberly Anne.

Maya was the rose among thorns of siblings, said mother Dr. Erminia Agustin.

The funeral was attended by officials of the Sangguniang Bayan, municipal department heads, and employees.

Among those who were at the funeral were Calasiao Vice Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay, 3rd District Representative Rachel Baby Arenas, and Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil.

Former Pangasinan Governor Amado T. Espino Jr. was also spotted during the funeral.

The town was shocked when news broke out of her passing on January 8.

Freddie Fajardo of Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan broke the news on Caramat’s death.

Caramat was spending the Saturday night with her family and was rushed to a hospital in Dagupan city when her hypertension was not subsiding. She expired 12:30 A.M. Sunday, January 8.

Caramat, according to Fajardo’s report, has already been suffering from hypertension and may have been aggravated by her hectic activities during the Yuletide season.
