Dagupan’s Diamond Jubilee Year to honor youth, teachers
MAYOR Belen Fernandez met with officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) and youth organizations in the city last week to organize initial events for the year-long observance of Dagupan City’s Diamond Jubilee Year, marking the 75th ‘Agew na Dagupan’.
Mayor Fernandez held the meeting shortly after she issued Executive Order (EO) No. 12, creating an executive committee that will take charge of events and ceremonies for the year-long observance of ‘Agew na Dagupan’.
One of the guidelines set for planned events is to showcase the talents and skills of today’s youth who will carry on the legacy of good governance in the city and to acknowledge the contribution of teachers and educators.
Youth groups signified their intention to hold events such as ‘Linggo ng Kabataan’, Music and Arts Festival that can lead to the creation of the Dagupan City Performing Arts.
The EO cited the need to celebrate the 75th founding anniversary of Dagupan with year-long activities to commemorate how the city evolved and to highlight the vision for the city for future generations.
On June 20, 1947, Dagupan received its city charter through Republic Act No. 170 or the City Charter of Dagupan.
The late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Eugenio Perez, Sr., authored the law that gave cityhood to Dagupan. (CIO)
