More classrooms in Dagupan deemed unsafe

THE Department of Education Dagupan City Schools Division Office (SDO) identified more structures that sustained damages when the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake hit the city last July 27.

In last week’s issue of The PUNCH, the SDO initially only listed the PAGCOR Building in Dagupan City National High School, some classrooms in Pugaro Integrated School, and the covered court of the Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Technical-Vocational Secondary School.

In the SDO’s further inspection, more rooms were deemed still not safe for occupancy, despite the opening of the school year 2022-2023.

Salisay Elementary School’s six dilapidated classrooms built in 1972 were deemed unsafe for use and should be demolished.

Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School in Bonuan Binloc also reported some classrooms that sustained damages during the earthquake.

Edilberto Abalos, the Dagupan SDO’s school governance and preparation division chief, said the classrooms will not be used by the students.

Classes will be held in other makeshift rooms.

Despite the reduction in number of classrooms, the SDO said classes will not be interrupted because adjustments will be made. (Ahikam Pasion)
