Dagupan bets’ motorcades created gridlocks on first day of campaign

TRAFFIC was gridlocked for hours starting Friday morning, March 25, when the two opposing teams of candidates in Dagupan City kicked off their respective campaigns with motorcades at almost the same time.

The LiFe team of incumbent Mayor Brian Lim and Carlos Fernandez opened its campaign  with a motorcade in the Bonuan area while Team Belen’s full ticket led by former Mayor Belen Fernandez and Vice Mayor Bryan Kua, hit the streets rounding up the eastern barangays of Dagupan.

Lim and members of his team each rode a  “garong” attached to motorcycles while Fernandez and her teams stood on top of pickup-trucks and waved to the crowd that awaited them by the roadside.

Both teams were escorted by their respective motorcycle teams.

However, the two groups crossed paths at the inter-section of A.B. Fernandez Avenue and Nable Street when they returned to the downtown area, further clogging the streets for all points.

One motorcycle rider of the LiFe team was hospitalized after reportedly run over by his fellow rider while they were cruising along Nable Street near the intersection of A.B. Fernandez Avenue.

In the afternoon, even under the blazing sun, Fernandez and her green team resumed their motorcade, this time in the Bonuan area that again kept vehicles moving on a snail pace.

Between the two groups, the green team appeared to have gotten more attention from crowd, with many waving feverishly upon seeing Fernandez waving and smiling at them.

A jeepney driver plying the Bonuan area and a supporter of Fernandez was quoted as saying: “Delikado si Brian nito”.

At 5:00 p.m., Fernandez and her green team held a mammoth proclamation rally at the CSI helipad, attended by thousands of her supporters from across Dagupan City.

Composing the Fernandez-Kua team are reelectionist Councilor Michael Fernandez, Luis Samson Jr.,  Karlos Reyna, Dennis Canto and Teresa Coquia, Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Joshua Bugayong, former Councilors Jig Seen and Emong Vallejos, Danila Cayabyab and Dianne Decano.

The Lim administration’s LiFe team for the city council are Councilors Librada Reyna and Celia Lim, former Councilors Alfie Fernandez, Red Erfe Mejia and Alvin Coquia, Irene Lim Acosta, Marilou Fernandez, Leo Cuaton, Jek Palaganas and Teddy Villamil.  (Leonardo Micua)
