ONLY one mayor in Pangasinan is running unopposed in the May 9, 2022 elections.

Unlike in previous elections where there are number of candidates, from mayor to councilor, seeking an elective post were without opponents, this time only Mangatarem Mayor Ramil Ventenilla enjoys such an honor.

Pangasinan has 44 towns and four cities.

Assistant Regional Election Director Reddy Balarbar said based on report reaching their office in Region 1 submitted by Provincial Election Supervisor of Pangasinan Marino Salas after the closing of the filing of candidacy Friday at 5:00 p.m., Ventenilla’s third term is already assured.

Balarbar said unopposed candidates like Ventenilla needs only one vote but the copy of the certificate of canvass and proclamation, which is an official document proclaiming them as winner, can be generated only after the canvassing of votes in a town shall have been finished.

He said there is only one ballot only for mayor, vice mayor and councilor in a town where the number of votes garnered by the candidates is generated, he added. (Eva Visperas)
