SP backs suspension of opening of classes
THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan adopted two resolutions urging the national government to reset the opening of classes and to suspension of all activities for the current 2021-2022 school year in view of the latest surge of COVID-19 cases in the provinces.
Both resolutions were authored by Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, noting that while classes had already opened last September 13, there were 13 mayors of towns and cities who issued executive orders suspending the opening of classes in their respective areas to October 14 on account of the continuous surge in COVID-19 cases.
These were Anda, Binmaley, Bugallon, Urbiztondo, Calasiao, Malasiqui, Sta. Barbara, Mangaldan, San Jacinto, Alcala, Rosales, and cities of Dagupan and San Carlos.
Rosario said the opening of classes needed to be adjusted and all activities in all schools to be suspended until such time that guidelines are issued to ensure observance of health protocols for teachers, school personnel and parents while modules are being distributed.
In his E.O. 29, series of 2021, Mayor Brian Lim cited the surge in COVID-19 cases and the reclassification of Dagupan City to General Community Quarantine from Modified General Community Quarantine as reasons for the suspension of opening of classes.
According to the E.O., the opening of classes concomitantly requires the reporting for work of teachers and school personnel to distribute, and to parents trooping to the schools to receive their self-learning modules for pupils.
In his case, San Carlos City Mayor Juliet Resuello said the city’s COVID-19 Task Force recommended the suspension of the opening of classes in order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in his city. (Leonardo Micua)
