‘SURGE PLAN A’ IMPLEMENTED

THE Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City will start to implement its Surge Plan A this week after its 120-bed isolation facility for COVID-19 patients has reached 100% occupancy rate last week due to the continuous rise of COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan.

According to Dr. Joseph Roland Mejia, R1MC chief, Surge Plan A requires the hospital to close the hospital’s outpatient department (OPD) and its staff will be deployed to attend to the growing number of patients seeking medical help.

Additionally, the hospital will also close half of its pay wards to be converted into COVID-19 wards anticipating further increase in the number of patients this week.

Mejia assured that the Department of Health central office that R1MC has sufficient medicines and other needs of COVID-19 patients.

He said that if the situation still get worse, RIMC will implement Surge Plan B that will require it to close all its services and convert the R1MC as a COVID-19 hospital.

Mejia called on Pangasinenses to cooperate by having themselves vaccinated and to observe all the safety health protocols, like wearing of face mask and face shields, washing of hands regularly and maintain social distancing. (Leonardo Micua/Ahikam Pasion/Eva Visperas)
