THE list of municipalities and cities in Pangasinan classified by the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 (DOH-CHD1) as high risk to critical risk for COVID-19 has been expanded from 18 to 23.

DOH-CHD 1 said in the original list of local government units were the cities of Dagupan, San Carlos, Urdaneta and Alaminos; towns of Aguilar, Balungao, Bugallon, Calasiao, Mapandan, Basista, Bolinao, Infanta, Labrador, Laoac, Mabini, Villasis, San Manuel, and San Nicolas.

Newly added are the towns of Binalonan, Pozorrubio, Tayug, Santa Maria and Sison.

The risk classification of these LGUs is based on the data compiled by the Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU) of DOH-CHD 1 in accordance with the rate of COVID-19 that they had logged proportionate to the utilization of their existing isolation and health care facilities.

High risk and critical areas are classified as a guide for implementing vaccine rollouts for Priority Group A4 (essential workers if their supply of vaccines permits without disregarding Priority Group A1 (front line health workers), Priority Group A2 (senior citizens) and Priority Group A3 (persons with co-morbidities).

There are a total of 94 municipalities and cities in Region 1 classified as high risk to critical risk for COVID-19. (Leonardo Micua)
