FIVE modern jeepneys operated by the BTSI, the company that operates the taxi service in Dagupan City, are running through the city’s streets daily to support the government’s “Libreng Sakay”- Free Ride for Health Workers and APORs Program.

The units are colored green with clean, spacious and comfortable seats.

Five more modern jeepneys will arrive in Dagupan soon.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade made a pitch for the Free Ride for Health Workers and APORs Program during his visit in Dagupan on June 10.

The program is under the Service Contracting Program of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

Tugade said the Free Ride program will be expanded to 10 routes to serve inter-town routes in Pangasinan.

Tugade said the accredited jeepney operators of the Free Ride will receive fee per kilometer run from the DOTr and LTFRB.

In short, whether the bus or jeepney has passenger or not, once it runs on scheduled time, goes to designated areas, they’re already paid. No need to race and scramble for passengers, there’s no more of that” Tugade said. (Eva Visperas)
