COVID bed occupancy in Region only 40%
PANGASINAN BED OCCUPANCY, 80%
THE bed occupancy for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients in the Ilocos Region is still manageable amid the rising cases of the virus.
In an interview Wednesday, Department of Health Center for Health Development 1 (DOH-CHD 1) spokesperson Dr. Rheuel Bobis said the bed occupancy rate in the COVID-19 referral hospitals in the region are considered to be in safe zone.
“Although we have observed the increase of COVID-19 cases in the Region, our bed utilization rate is still at 40-percent and still far from the critical level” he said.
Based on the data of the region’s DOH-CHD, 1,512 bed are dedicated for COVID-19 patients but only 610 beds are occupied.
“Before, we’re only doing 20 up to 30-percent occupancy,” he added.
Bobis said investigation is going on to verify if the rising cases are associated with the new COVID-19 variants.
As of 5 p.m. of Apr. 6, 2021 Region 1 has logged 10, 863 COVID-19 cases.
The situation in Pangasinan, however, doesn’t reflect the region’s position. In a separate interview, Pangasinan Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman said, the COVID-19 bed occupancy is nearing its capacity with an 80-percent occupancy. (Jerick Pasiliao)
