Quezon Huskers beat Pangasinan Heatwaves, 72-68

THE Quezon Huskers dealt Pangasinan Heatwaves their third loss in five starts, 72-68-in the 6thseason of MPBL held at San Andres Sports Complex last April 23 in Quezon.

Heatwaves’ Hesed Gabo sparked the run for Pangasinan in the four-minute mark of the fourth period with a steal and a lefty lay-up to cut the lead at six, 60-66.

Huskers’ LJ Gonzales rifled a pass to Judel Fuentes in the left wing and nailed his third three-pointer to extend Quezon’s lead at eight, 71-63, with a minute and 14 seconds remaining.

In the last right seconds of the ball game, Jhapz Bautista netted a three-pointer and reduced the gap within four, 68-72 but the Huskers burned the clock to their advantage as the final buzzer sounded off.

Huskers’ balanced scoring contributions bolstered their second win of the season with Xyrus Torres leading the charge tallying 16 points and 4 rebounds, added with Judel Fuentes’ 12 points and Ximone Sandagon’s 12 points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

Pangasinan drew a game-high of 18 points and six assists for its leading scorer Hesed Gabo coupled with Jhapz Bautista marking up 11 points.

Heatwaves head coach Jerson Cabiltes said in the post-game interview that the team will work on their late game execution and improve their shot selections moving forward in the tourney. (Kim Gealogo)
