NO BUDGET SUPPORT

PARTICIPATION of Dagupan City in the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) meet this month is again in peril because the seven opposition councilors in the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) continue to delay the passage of both the 2024 Annual Investment Program and the 2024 Annual City Budget.

This was disclosed by Councilor Dennis Canto as he urged the SP to discuss and pass the two measures to enable the city government to fully support its athletes that are preparing for the city’s representation in the annual sports meet.

Canto called attention to the uncertainty of support for the city’s team because of the delay in the passage of the budget when he explained his vote during the nominal voting on the motion of adjournment moved by the majority.

He urged the seven majority councilors to bring the discussion of the annual AIP and the annual budget before the plenary to enable the city government to access funds for the athletes’ training, equipment as well as uniform when they represent Dagupan City in the annual R1AA.

The committee on finance and appropriations of the Sanggunian, composed of the seven opposition councilors, indicated it will continue to hold only weekly committee hearings behind closed doors, refusing to heed Mayor Belen Fernandez’s request to hold daily sessions. (Leonardo Micua)
