Malasiqui launches Mondares Cup Chess Tourney
THE Malasiqui local government launched the 1st Armando Mondares Cup Chess Tournament last December 3, 2023 that saw the participation of 60 chess wood pushers.
Sanctioned by Mayor Anthony Geslani, the event was held at the Municipal ABC Building.
The winners of the seven-round chess rapid time control system in 7 categories were: Modesto Delfin Jr. (champion, Mondares Cup), Hannah Grace Capitle (champion, Top Lady), Ricardo Macasieb (champion, Top College), Leo Vinluan (champion, Top Jr. High School), Diacosa Sawei (champion, Top Sr. High), Karl Layno (champion, Top Elementary) and Armando Mondares (champion, Top Senior). Champions won P2,500 pesos while second and third placers won P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.
“Malasiqui is very rich in producing chess prospects and being able to discover one after another is an accomplishment for me. I’ll continue setting up more chess activities to showcase the players’ brilliant skills and promote the sport as a discipline,” said tournament sponsor Armando Mondares. (Kim Gealogo)
