Gov. Espino, Acting Australian Ambassador discuss marine culture, fishery projects

GOVERNOR Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino III and Australian Embassy Acting Ambassador Richard Sisson discussed potential partnership projects between the Provincial Government of Pangasinan and the Australian Government during the courtesy visit of the embassy executives on July 16 at the Governor’s Office, Provincial Capitol.
During the courtesy call, Ambassador Sisson presented their intention to adapt or launch projects in Pangasinan concerning programs on marine resources and fisheries.
“One of the reasons for my visit to the Governor is for us to look up for progress in our projects and see how it changes life in Pangasinan and on the other hand, we’ve just established new grant programs for maritime work, doing research and working with communities,” said Acting Ambassador Sisson.
It can be noted that the Australian Center for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR) Center teamed up with the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute (UPMSI) and launched programs such as the giant clam sanctuary, sea cucumber hatchery and coral reef restoration in Anda, Alaminos City and Bolinao.
Gov. Espino expressed his gratitude to the ambassador and looks forward to the future partnership of the provincial government with the Australian government.
The provincial chief executive directed Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro to discuss the Artificial Reef installation program of the provincial government which can be supported by the Australian Government.
The Provincial Government department heads were also invited to the Australian Embassy to propose programs that could be supported by the Australian Government.
The Australian Acting Ambassador Richard Sisson and officials were toured around the Capitol Complex, especially at the World War II Memorial Park where a monument was erected to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of brave crews of the Royal Australian Navy during World War II to liberate the Philippines.
The embassy executives also toured the Abong na Dayew and the Casa Real.
Australian Embassy Officials namely Second Secretary Mr. Jack Williams, Second Secretary Ms. Jarrah Tippet-Moore, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) Country Manager Ms. Mai Alagcan and Program Officer Ms. Bianca Suarez expressed their amazement over Pangasinan’s rich culture and achievements.
Joining Gov. Espino in welcoming the Australian Embassy delegates were Provincial Administrator Nimrod Camba, Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine U. Baniqued, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretary Verna T. Nava-Perez, Provincial Health Officer Ana Ma. Teresa de Guzman, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Nathaniel L. Pulido, Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rodhyn Luchinvar Oro, and Provincial Information Officer Orpheus Velasco. /JCSS
