2024 Bangus Festival kicks off April 13

THIS year’s annual Bangus Festival (April 13-May 1) kicked off with the launching of the “Ilog Ko, Bilay Ko, Dapat Mahalin Ko,” a food for work program , to underscore the importance of a clean environment in order to effectively promote ‘Dagupan Bangus’, the city’s primary agricultural product.

Councilor Marcelino Fernandez, this year’s festival chairman, said the launching of the food for work program for residents for the cleaning of rivers and creeks in all the city’s barangays will be followed by a host of activities that will engage both the elderly and the youth to make the festival relevant to their lives.

Fernandez, whose appointment as this year’s chairman was announced by Mayor Belen Fernandez during the flag-raising ceremony at the Dagupan City Plaza last April 8, also announced the holding of sports activities for the Sangguniang Kabataan and a national bowling tournament, and the organization of Higher Educational Institution Job Fairs and Career Development Support Program on April 17 backed by a lecture on illegal recruitment for the benefit of graduating senior high school students in the city.

On April 19, he said solo parents qualified to receive P1,200 in financial aid be issued their ID cards while the   “Barkadahan Fun Run – Batik Para sa Kalinisan ng Dagupan” will be held on April 26 for runners who submit empty bottles and used sachets of products.

On April 27, the Bangus Rodeo, a regular feature of the Bangus Festival, will be held and the ABS-CBN Caravan will provide entertainment at the CSI helipad in Lucao while a Mad Kart Competition at the Mad Kart Racing Center in Barangay Tambac.

The Bangusan Street Party will be held on April 30 along Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension.

Finally on May 1, city government will host a beach party to celebrate “Pista ng Dagat” at the Tondaligan Beach while a jobs fair will be held in observance of Labor Day  and oyster farmers in the city receive livelihood assistance. (Leonardo Micua)
