Dagupan holds first Noche Buena de Belen for 280 indigent families
SOME 1,200 persons belonging to 280 indigent families were served Noche Buena de Belen as beneficiaries of the first ever held on Christmas Eve at the West Central Elementary School.
A joint community service responsibility project of the Dagupan City government and 25 corporate partners, the project brought together the most impoverished families in Dagupan’s downtown area to partake sumptuous noche buena.
The kids were entertained by clowns and received toys from ‘Santa Claus’.
Mayor Belen Fernandez personally attended to the needs of mostly women and children, including senior citizens that were pre-selected from the most impoverished families in the downtown area.
Introduced as part of Dagupan’s Christmas celebration and in this year’s city fiesta, the Noche Buena de Belen was launched to help indigent families celebrate the Christmas season.
Fernandez said the programs was benchmarked from Milpitas City where she and other city officials, including youth officials, were on a goodwill visit in November.
Milpitas City Mayor Carmen Montano personally served turkey to a select group of poor Milpitans during a Thanksgiving Day party.
Served, during the Noche Buena de Belen were ham, fried chicken, lechon that poor families cannot afford to serve on their dining tables.
Dagupan City government’s partner in the Noche Buena de Belen were Star Plaza Hotel, Lenox Hotel, Shakey’s Pizza, MC Donald’s, Gloria Maris and City de Luxe Restaurant. (Leonardo Micua)
