IN its rich 107-year history, the Benguet State University (BengSU) has produced its first-ever summa cum laude in Vjnhyl Zam Pondivida, a 22-year-old resident of Pozorrubio town.

In an interview with Pondivida, she said she still feels mixed emotions graduating with the highest distinction.

Summa Cum Laude is the highest of three Latin honors for academics earned by a graduating college student.

A BS in Development Communication student, majoring in Development Journalism, Pondivida is also a citizen journalist, a member of the youth organization Pangasinan Youth for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, along with its media arm AsinBolo.

AsinBolo has assisted Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan during the 2022 Presidential Elections in its coverage after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with them.

Pondivida said she has chosen the course herself, without any pressure from anybody, as she believes that Development Communication is an important factor in helping the community.

Aside from being a campus and citizen journalist, a student leader and an activist, Pondivida said her active participation in extracurricular activities inspired her to continue pursuing her chosen path.

“Through my extracurricular activities, I have developed enduring passion and love for my craft”, she said.

She is third in a brood of four.

Pondivida is set to graduate on July 21. After graduating, Pondivida is planning to work in BengSU as a college instructor.

“It’s about time I give back to the community”, she said. (Ahikam Pasion)
