76th Agew na Dagupan, simple but meaningful celebration
THE 76th Agew na Dagupan celebration with the theme “Ilaban su Baley” (Fight for the City), kicked off on June 20 with a wreath-laying at the foot of the monument of the late Speaker Eugenio Perez Sr., revered as the Father of Dagupan who authored Republic Act 170, the law that converted the former municipality of Dagupan into a chartered city.
The celebration was modest and simple compared to the just concluded year-long celebration of Dagupan City’s Diamond Jubilee Year, which climaxed in the evening of June 19 with the holding of ‘Pinablin Dagupan Awards. ’
The wreath-laying at 6:00 a.m. was led by Mayor Belen Fernandez, Vice Mayor Dean Bryan Kua and Councilors Michael Fernandez, Jeslito Seen, Dennis Canto, Marcelino Fernandez and Joshua Bugayong, Herrero-Perez East Barangay Captain Salvacion Bravo and members of her barangay council, Lt. Colonel Brendon Palisoc, chief of police of Dagupan, Chief Inspector Michael Escano, city Fire Marshal, and department heads of the Dagupan City government.
The celebration continued with a Thanksgiving Mass at Saint John the Evangelist Cathedral, and a motorcade along the streets of Dagupan participated by a convoy of 200 vehicles with the head vehicle playing the Dagupan Hymn.
Agew na Dagupan, per Proclamation No. 225 issued by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., through Secretary Lucas Bersamin, was a special non-working public holiday in Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
