WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS

AN 11-year-old Dagupan lass brought honor to the city of Dagupan and to the country when she bagged two bronze medals in the 25th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts held in Anaheim, California, USA from July 22 to 30, 2022.

Sophia Madaya Samonte, who hails from Barangay Bonuan Boquig, was one of 60 members of Philippine team that competed with artists from 60 countries in the talent-laden event.

Sophia was the only Pangasinense who took part in the Vocals, Kids category, where she won the bronze medal in Vocal Pop, and another bronze under the Vocal World, her first international competition.

She’s the daughter of Dante and Arlyn Samonte and an incoming Grade 6 student at St. Robert Bellarmine Center for Learning in Dagupan City.

According to Sophia’s mother, Arly, her daughter has shown love and talent for singing even at an early age.

To nurture and hone her talent, Sophia took vocal training in Dagupan and also joined different local singing contests.

Mommy Arly shared Sophia’s journey to the World Championships of Performing Arts and how they managed to handle the difficulties despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sophia and Mommy Arly paid a courtesy call on Mayor Belen Fernandez on August 4 to personally express their gratitude for her support for her development of her talent.

The Samontes also thanked Councilor Jigs Seen and the rest of the kind-hearted individuals who helped them achieve Sophia’s victory.

The Philippine team brought home a total of 265 awards and medals from the 25th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts, which includes 38 Golds, 59 Silvers, and 85 Bronze Medals plus 44 Semi Finalist Medals, 8 Grand Finalist Medals, 1 Scholarship, 29 Division Winner Plaques and 1 Extraordinary National Director Plaque.
