Thank you for the flowers

AS soon as I wake up, I begin to thank God for the many things I have been blessed with. I give thanks for the people and circumstances that make my life a celebration, for the little things that make my life’s journey a meaningful walk, and for the trials that challenge the imagination, for the difficulties especially, that continue to strengthen the resolve to be good. I give thanks for the many inspirations to create, to be with the silence of dawn, in the sensuous dance of the darkness and the light.

The Garden

I woke up today thinking

of the many days

when I felt your soul

was no different from mine

that I can forget about it

and it is still there

with me

in me

and that I dance

in your gentle fingers

in the breeze slowly caressing

my hair

that I could breath you

in the scent of the jasmines

in this garden, at this hour

everyday

for each day that still remains

even when

you are very, very far away

I hold your soul in mine gently

as I pick the flowers

with joy, as much as pain

where thorns of the bougainvillea

can wound, but whose colors

can heal as they burst

with the smile of the sun

in this garden, I wait patiently

with the olive-backed sunbirds

for the fruits to ripen

for the buds to open

to nourish my body and soul

to borrow the songs of the wind

and dance another day

Thank you, Sun!

because you wake up the flowers

from whom my heart derives joy

and thrill the birds that sing to me,

i owe you, today

at least a tree, for them to perch on

and take refuge, under extreme weather

and warm, from the cold

of the human heart

for me too, to grow a forest

to heal my heart, to refine my soul

a tree for every despair

a tree for every kindness

a forest sustaining itself

growing from its own decay
