FOR the past two weeks, the towns and cities in Pangasinan have transformed into magical wonderlands, adorned with sparkling, spectacular, and utterly fascinating Christmas lights that are stealing the spotlight from the city halls to the plazas.

It’s Christmastime. A time of joy, wonder, and celebration. The dazzling displays of light and color are a sight to behold, and a perfect backdrop for capturing the festive spirit.

Many local government units (LGUs) in the province have already been showing their Christmas displays two weeks ago or even earlier, highlighting the beauty and creativity of their towns and cities. These displays are not only Instagrammable, but also inspiring and uplifting for the people who need some cheer and hope in these challenging times.

The LGUs in the province have orchestrated a dazzling choreography of lights, turning each display into a mesmerizing spectacle. The captivating scenes captured in photos and videos are now the instant favorites of Instagram enthusiasts, providing picture-perfect moments for those immersed in the realms of Facebook, Threads, and various other popular social media platforms.

In retrospect, the town of Calasiao bedazzled Pangasinenses and visitors last year. They were treated to the enchanting Dubai’s Miracle Garden-inspired Christmas Village, a creation that emerged under the creative direction of the late Mayora Maya Caramat, the town’s first-woman mayor.

This display, arguably the best and most memorable Christmas exhibit of 2022 by an LGU, has become the benchmark for a truly extraordinary showcase during this festive season. The story behind each Christmas display, coupled with the memories they evoke, makes them more than just a visual spectacle; they are a testament to the spirit of the season.

San Carlos City and Urdaneta City have already illuminated their Christmas villages, setting the stage for an enchanting celebration. Meanwhile, other towns and cities are gearing up to unveil their own ‘pampangiti at pampa-good vibes’ displays, promising sparkling Christmas trees, giant bell swings, beautiful baubles, and glittering decorations that captivate families from all walks of life.

Without hesitation, it can be claimed that Bayambang already grabbed the spotlight this year with its awe-inspiring Christmas decorations in the plaza. The Japan’s Ghibli-inspired Paskuhan sa Bayambang 2023 promises to make onlookers stop and gawk in wide-eyed wonder, affirming its status as the best Christmas display in the province.

Bayambang has a history of delivering outstanding Christmas displays, from the Disneyland-inspired exhibit in 2019 or perhaps even earlier, to the present day. Under the leadership of the Quiambaos—ex-Mayor Cezar T. Quiambao and incumbent Mayor Niña Quiambao—Bayambang consistently creates the most wonderful time of the year for its residents and visitors alike.

In Nancapian, Malasiqui town, where the sprawling residence of Third District Congressman Rachel Arenas is located, I saw on Facebook how she enthusiastically visited her fabulous Christmas village, which is open to everyone. It made me smile as I watched the congresswoman mingle with the boys and girls in her neighborhood, who were sun-tanned and sun-scented. They took photos in every corner and were promised hamburgers later.

Kaiba to ray ogaw bagigaw balet malike-liket,” I said with a smile as I watched her on FB.

In the midst of life’s challenges, the Christmas season becomes an opportunity to spread joy and put a beautiful smile on everyone’s face. As we gaze upon the glittering lights that spill from the rooftops, down the walls, and into the gardens, including bridges and lamp posts around town, it’s reminiscent of the innocent delight in a child’s eyes.

Josh Groban’s Christmas song “Believe” reminds us that even when it seems the magic has slipped away, we rediscover it all on Christmas Day.

Similarly, Faith Hill’s song “Where are you Christmas?” asserts that with love in our hearts and minds, we can feel the magic of Christmas throughout the year.

In Pangasinan, this enchanting symphony of lights is not merely a display—it’s a celebration of love, joy, and the enduring magic of the season. #
