PNP Region 1 ready for Holy Week observance
EXPECT more policemen on the streets and along tourists’ destinations in Region 1 when thousands of visitors arrive for the Holy Week observance.
P/BGen. Lou Evangelista told Pangasinan newsmen on March 13 that Region 1 has many beautiful tourist spots accessible to Metro Manila only three hours drive now via the NLEX and TPLEX.
He noted, however, that the long holiday period, is a serious concern because of big number of vehicular traffic incidents and thievery case, illegal drugs peddling so PNP will again launch its summer vacation plan called SUMVAC to increase police visibility.
“Actually pag may tourist spot ka, mayroon kang trained tourist police (dapat),” he said, citing the tourists police in Ilocoas Sur garbed in “katipuneros” attire.
Aside from pristine beaches, Region 1 also boasts of popular pilgrimage sites and old churches frequented by devotees, particularly the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag. (Eva Visperas)
