A JEALOUS husband stabbed her wife to death 300 times inside a motel in Mangaldan town Tuesday, January 9.

Victim was identified as Marilyn Erfe Acosta, 39, an OFW and a resident of Barangay Poblacion in Sual town. Her husband, Richard Acosta, is a 40-year-old security guard.

Initial investigation from the Mangaldan PNP reveals the couple went to the San Fabian Beach, and before going home, decided to book a motel room in Barangay Bantayan, Mangaldan.

P/Lt. Colonel Benjamin Zarate, Mangaldan police chief, in an interview, said the husband admitted that the couple had an intense argument inside the motel room after he caught his wife on a video call with someone.

Motel staff heard growling in the room but paid no attention to it but rushed to the room when they saw Richard, his clothes bloodied, walked out of the room. They saw the victim’s body with stab wounds shoved under the bed.

Police see the incident as a crime of passion.

Zarate said a cellphone was recovered in the room and will be submitted to the crime laboratory for examination.

Follow-up probe reveals the crime may have started inside the motel’s comfort room and probers recovered a multitool pliers, packed with small knives, which may have been used to commit the crime.

The suspect attempted to run away, but he reportedly appeared to have contemplated his actions, as he walked toward the police station. The responding police spotted the suspect, and arrested him.

Zarate said medico-legal report indicates that the victim sustained more than 300 stab wounds.

Marilyn came home from abroad to celebrate Christmas with her family.

Meanwhile, Richard will face parricide charges and the victim’s family is determined to make sure Richard pays for his crime. (Ahikam Pasion)
