THE continuous oil price hike since the beginning of the year may have pushed others to resort to fuel-saving schemes but one man saw in it an opportunity to make a profit of others’ misery

Lawrence Anthony Cruz, a 38-year-old electrician and a resident of Barangay Sta Maria Bued in Alaminos City was arrested by authorities in the act of stealing gas from parked vehicles in Lingayen town.

Cruz was nabbed by the police who responded to a call Tuesday evening, March 8 about the presence of a man in Domalandan East acting suspiciously, moving around parked vehicles.

The suspect was caught siphoning off gas from the parked cars and the plastic container he had with him was full of 8 liters of gas. Further investigation showed that the L300 van he used had four more plastic containers estimated to contain 128 liters of gas worth P8,840 at current prices.

Police are probing the suspect’s modus at press time, where he steals and sells the stolen fuel. (Ahikam Pasion)
