New Dagupan Dawel Bridge set to open May 15

By April 21, 2024Inside News

THE newly built bridge across Dawel River in Dagupan is set to be opened to vehicular traffic on May 15 this year.

Engr. Amelia Zamodio, project engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), said it will definitely be opened on May 15 because work on the approaches to the bridge will be completed by then.

The new bridge had to be constructed when the existing Dawel Bridge was damaged by an Intensity 5 earthquake in July 2022 .

It was retrofitted and reopened to two-way traffic but cargo trucks were banned and were made to make a detour to Mangaldan to travel to-and-fro Dagupan.

The Dawel Bridge links downtown Dagupan to Bonuan all the way to  San Fabian and Mangaldan. (Leonardo Micua)
