Mangaldan has 21 flood-prone barangays

TWENTY-one out of 30 barangays in Mangaldan have been identified by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (DENR-MGB) with high flood susceptibility during continuous rainfall.

A Facebook post of Mangaldan Public Information Office cited the results of the Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (VRA) conducted by DENR-MGB, indicating that the 21 barangays have a high to moderate to high flood rating: Alitaya, Anolid, Banaoang, Buenlag, David, Embarcadero, Gueguesangen, Guesang, Guiguilonen, Inlambo, Lanas, Landas, Maasin, Macayug, Malabago, Navaluan, Nibaliw, Osiem, Salaan, Salay, and Talogtog.

Mayor Bona Fe De Vera-Parayno coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to review evacuation protocols and identify suitable evacuation sites for affected families during heavy rainfall.

Rodolfo Corla, from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, barangay captains and Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee members will be mobilized to assist in responding to any drowning incidents during calamities.

The local government will conduct regular meetings, information dissemination drives, and disaster preparedness initiatives to ensure the safety of residents. (Eva Visperas)
