SINCE its launching, the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Region I (DOH-CHD 1) continuously urges residents of Mangaldan town to support its ‘Everyday Is Bakuna Day’  (EIBD) program, with vaccination days extended more than  once a week.

The DOH-CHD 1 chose Mangaldan as its pilot LGU for the program in Region I where it launched the program on April 19.

The program is supported and funded by the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Relief International, and the DOH, in collaboration with the Mangaldan local government under Mayor Bona Fe de Vera-Parayno.

Parayno, a former health worker herself, values the importance of vaccination to prevent the spread of illnesses.

Dr. Larry Sarito, the town’s municipal health officer, added that vaccination is the key for a child to be well-protected and healthy.

At the launching, DOH-CHD Director IV Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongo said the EIBD program aims to promote vaccination of children, pregnant women, and senior citizens and by making it more accessible, with vaccination being done everyday in barangays, and at the Mangaldan Urgent Care and Infirmary Clinic, under the supervision of the town’s Municipal Health Office.

Included in the priority list are children 0-59 months who should be vaccinated with anti-measles and rubella, polio, diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, pneumonia, and tuberculosis.

The DOH-CHD also provides vaccines against tetanus and diphtheria for pregnant women and their children, while anti-pneumonia vaccines are being administered to senior citizens.

John Paul Aquino, DOH-CHD 1 National Immunization Program Coordinator, said the EIBD program’s end goal is to vaccinate the 85,394 children in Region I, 1,158 of which are from Mangaldan. (Ahikam Pasion)
