Unconsolidated jeepneys recommended to serve unapproved routes 

THE few jeepney operators in Pangasinan that have not consolidated will be recommended to ply routes not covered by the approved Public Utility Vehicle Local Route Plans for them to avoid being  phased out.

This was disclosed by One Pangasinan Transport Federation president Bernard Tuliao who said his group is coordinating with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board  (LTFRB) to enable the unconsolidated jeepney operators to still operate after the April 30 deadline. A consideration was forwarded for the jeepney operators that have unconsolidated citing their inability to meet the required 15  units to serve one route before it could consolidate and form a cooperative  to qualify,  a requirement of LTFRB. Tuliao said, to date, a big percentage of the more than 3,000 jeepney operators in Pangasinan have already consolidated. (Badz Agtalao)

Pangasinan SP to probe rising motorcycle accidents 

THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan is set to probe the increasing number of motorcycle accidents in many highways in Pangasinan. The SP invited officials of the Highway Patrol Group, Land Transportation Office and other government  agencies to shed light on actions to minimize death and injuries due to motorcycle accidents.

Ongoing rice harvest forces price of staple down

RICE retailers confirmed that fresh rice supply have already started to flood the markets, forcing a significant drop in the prices of the staple..

The price of rice at the Malimgas Public Market in Dagupan can now be bought at P45 per kilo from a high of P49 to P50 per kilo since the start of year 2024, depending on the variety. Some being sold at P49 per kilo and others, P50 per kilo.  The lower price of rice is on account of the ongoing harvest of second crop rice that reached its peak this month of March, being harvested in different rice producing areas in Pangasinan, especially from irrigated fields. Rosario seeks intensified education on teenage pregnancy 

INTENSIFICATION of sex education and increased awareness of the youth on the ill-effects of teenage pregnancy was sought by Fourth District Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario. A doctor by profession, Rosario said young  girls need to know the difficult life they will face if they become pregnant at an early age.

He said higher level of education of the youth especially on the issue of teenage pregnancy could help curb or even prevent teenage pregnancy. Officials believe that easy access by the youth to social media is among the many reasons for the increase in teenage pregnancy. (Joana de Vera)

500 farmers to get temporary work from TUPAD

SOME 500 farmers adversely affected by the El Niño phenomenon will be temporarily employed under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment.

The farmers will be given temporary employment in various projects for 10 days and will receive P4,350 from the TUPAD program.

While working, they will be given personal protective equipment, hats, long sleeve shirts and insurance coverage. In addition, they will also receive family food packs, vitamins and face masks. (Jam Victorio)

DOH1 urges parents: Protect kids from measles

THE Department  of Health-Center for Health Development 1 urged parents to have their children aged four years old and lower vaccinated in their nearest health center to ensure that they are safe from measles during the summer period.

Measles normally occur during summer when the temperature is a higher than the normal levels .(Joana de Vera)
