FOUR condominium buildings will be constructed in 2024 in Barangay Bonuan Boquig in  Dagupan City as part of the mass housing program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Mayor Belen Fernandez said the project, a four-storey condominium-type housing project on a 2,000 sq. m. lot, was discussed with officials of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development regional office last Thursday.

She said a Local Housing Board will be formed to closely work with the DHSUD, and called on some local architects, engineers and development planners to help in the conceptualization and implementation of the project.

The basic plan for the project for homeless city government employees, including deserving job order employees capable of amortizing on easy monthly installment basis under the term of rent-to-own basis.

Fernandez said teachers, policemen, members of transport organizations, including media men who do not own homes, are also qualified provided they meet the criteria.

Once completed, she said the city government can also earn from leasing commercial spaces on the ground floors.

The mayor revealed that the rent-to-own basis premise will also be adopted on a lot bought by the city in 2018 in Sitio Guam in Barangay Pantal for the benefit of its current occupants,  especially the indigent families.

It may be recalled that before Fernandez lost in her reelection bid, she had planned to develop the area as a model housing site for the benefit of the homeless families.

She also considered selling of Dagupan’s property in Talibaew, Calasiao, and proceeds from the sale can be used to buy another lot and build more houses for the homeless people in   the city. (Leonardo Micua)
