SP confirms ex-ABS-CBN news anchor as PIO
THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan confirmed the appointment of a former news anchor of ABS-CBN Corporation on Monday as the new provincial information officer.
Dhobie de Guzman, born and raised in Barangay Balligi, Laoac town, got the nod of the SP members after a 40-minute deliberation about his qualifications.
De Guzman, who hosted TV Patrol North Luzon, said he is an advocate of community journalism and worked with various community newspapers and radio stations in Baguio City, including ABS-CBN as his last stint until it closed in 2020.
He was also the founding president and CEO of the Regional News Group Luzon Inc.
“It is my goal for Pangasinan PIO to be a team of multi-talented news operation and news gathering specialists,” he said, underscoring that the trend today is in the digital shift.
De Guzman finished Bachelor of Arts in Communication at the University of the Cordilleras in Baguio City in 1998.
On Fourth District Board Member Jerry Rosario’s query why he resides in Baguio City when his permanent home address is Laoac, De Guzman clarified later he still goes to his parent’s home in Laoac.
Sixth District Board Member Noel Bince noted possible disqualification because the Local Government Code requires that an appointee should be a resident of a local government where he or she intends to work.
Residence is different from permanent address. “Which is which?”, Bince asked.
De Guzman said, he’s a resident of Baguio City and Laoac because he often visits his mother and sibling in Laoac town.
On Second District Board Member Haidee Soriano-Pacheco’s question about his writing skills since his latest work experience was largely in broadcasting, De Guzman said as a college student, he wrote news for their student publication and continued his news writing in various Baguio newspapers after graduation.
De Guzman’s appointment paper was signed by Gov. Ramon Guico III on May 18, two days after he passed the Civil Service exam on May 16.
Meanwhile, Vice Governor Mark Lambino pointed out to De Guzman that he must also be open to a two-way means of communication for effective messaging to the province of Pangasinan. (Eva Visperas)
