Pangasinan to partner with DENR in reforestation

THE provincial government will partner with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in planting 120 hectares of land located in Sitio Dumuloc, Barangay Cayanga in Bugallon town with forest trees in the next nine years.

This was provided for in a memorandum of agreement set to be signed between Governor Ramon Guico III, in behalf of the provincial government, and DENR Regional Director Crisalde Barcelo.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, in a resolution authored by Board Member Veci Ventanilla, authorized Gov. Guico to sign the MOA after DENR signified interest in a partnership with Pangasinan for the maintenance and protection of agro-forest areas in Cayanga, Bugallon under the Enhanced National Greening Program.

Ventanilla said the project is in line with the objective of the expanded national greening program of DENR, which seeks to grow billions of trees in unproductive, and denuded forest lands from 2023 to 2028 and will be expanded further to some 130 hectares in adjacent areas that are needing reforestation.

Vice Governor Mark Lambino said that the 120 hectare land set to be greened under the MOA is part of the 250 hectare land earlier covered by an earlier partnership agreement between the DENR and a Civil Society Organization (CSO), but which the latter gave up for its failure to comply with the requirements of the agency.

Among the projects set to be undertaken in the area include wing weeding or street brushing, application of organic fertilizers, replanting of trees, maintenance of established fire breaks or fire lines, foot patrolling and watering. (Leonardo Micua)
