THE Dagupan City Health Office continuously warns the public to take proper care when going through flooded areas, especially during high tide.

This, after Dante Zamora, a resident of Barangay Pantal in Dagupan City, a 39-year-old garbage collector died from leptospirosis.

Before being rushed to the hospital, Zamora had fever, stomach ache, and body ache.

Family members said while he had no foot or leg injuries, he did not wear protective gear when collecting garbage in flood-infested areas in the city.

Zamora’s death certificate reveals his cause of death: severe leptospirosis. Further diagnosis reveals his kidneys and heart have been severely affected by the bacterial illness.

So far, 52 leptospirosis cases have been recorded in the region from January 1 to September 5 and six died. (Ahikam Pasion)
