Brigada Eskwela launched in Dagupan schools

MAYOR Belen Fernandez led the kick-off ceremony and launch of the Department of Education’s ‘Brigada Eskwela’ program in various public schools in preparation for the re-opening of face-to-face classes on August 22.

Brigada Eskwela’s activities this year include maintenance and repair of schools with the help of teachers, parents and volunteers.

The mayor lauded the cooperation among teachers, parents and volunteers to ensure a safe and child-friendly environment for pupils and students.

Some P300,000 worth of disinfectants and alcohol was donated by the CSI Group of Companies and Green Cross for the implementation of the safety and health protocols of Brigada Eskwela.

The Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 also turned-over 40 chemically-treated Olyset nets to the Lucao Elementary School and North Central School to be used inside the classrooms as protection against dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

Mayor Fernandez led a similar launch of the Brigada Eskwela at the Bonuan Boquig National High School and North Central Elementary School in Bonuan Gueset the following day, Aug. 9.

The mayor announced the possible construction of a track oval for Bonuan Boquig National High School following the purchase of a vacant lot.

During Mayor Fernandez’s previous administration, the city government purchased a wide area of land within the Bonuan Boquig National High School for the construction of a four-storey building composed of 20 classrooms.

Mayor Fernandez also inspected the buildings and premises of North Central Elementary School where she stressed the importance of cooperation between the DepEd and stakeholders of the Brigada Eskwela to ensure its success.

During her visit to the schools, the mayor asked for the continued support of teachers and parents in various Unliserbisyo programs of the city government, among these are:

KonSulTa (Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama) of PhilHealth, the Child Health Advocate program (to encourage schoolchildren to report to their teachers any member of their families who are sick and need medical treatment), the Ubo Patrol program (contra  pulmonary tuberculosis or other respiratory ailments).

Mayor Fernandez also encouraged the teachers and parents to receive vaccination against COVID-19 and announced the return of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) Summit soon. (CIO)
