We will fight in search of truth — Rep. Espino

By May 29, 2022Inside News

AFTER a two-week silence, outgoing Second District Rep. Jumel Anthony Espino finally reacted to the results of the May 9 election where he lost by a wide margin to his challenger, former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco.

Espino said he deemed it to be with his family first to lessen the pain they suffered but their spirit was boosted when many people of the Second District reiterated their support for him.

His elder brother, Governor Amado Espino III, lost to his challenger Fifth District Congressman Ramon Guico III. However, their mother, Mely, won her reelection as mayor of Bugallon while the API party-list, of which the Espino patriarch, former Governor and Rep. Amado Espino Jr., is a nominee, ranks 20th in the number of party-lists voted.

Marunong po tayong tumanggap ng pagkatalo, lalo na kung ang pagkatalo na yan ay galing sa malinis na paraan,” Espino intoned, indicating he still is not ready to concede to Cojuangco as he pledged he would not remain silent and merely forget what happened in the last election not only in the second district but in the whole province.

He said it is the same attitude being taken by his brother, Governor Pogi.

Insinuating massive cheating, he said, “Wala na ang pagiging patas. Wala na ang ating tooong boses at sigaw ng ating mga kababayan. Wala na ang ating karapatan na pumili ng mga totoong lider na nagmamahal sa ating mga kababayan at probinsiya”.

So, gaya po ng sinasabi ko, lalaban po tayo para mahanap natin ang katotohanan. May awa po ang Diyos, lalabas at lalabas din po ang katotohanan dito po sa nangyari na election dito po sa ating probinsya,” he added.

The Abante Pangasinan Ilokano (API), the political party that carried Gov. Espino III in his re-election bid, did not file an election protest before the regular court as it threatened to do earlier.

The outgoing congressman thanked his constituents in the second district for their support and love for the Espino family and assured them that their brand of service “Tatak Espino” will continue. (Leonardo Micua)
