THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) is on full alert and has intensified its patrol operations in places of known convergence of criminal activities particularly before and during the New Year festivities.

PPPO Director P/Col. Richmond Tadina said police units are actively pursuing intelligence reports in the field to prevent criminals from taking advantage of celebration mood in communities.

“We are focused on incidents that are prevalent during this time such as shoplifting, robbery, and vehicular traffic accidents,” he said.

PPPO has ramped up deployment of personnel especially in malls, plazas, tourist spots, and churches where most people gather to boost police presence while more patrol assignments are given to  mobile and motorcycle units.

Tadina added random checkpoints are being set up even with the eased quarantine protocols since the province has been under Alert Level 2 status to prevent vehicular accidents on the road since most occur when motorists are under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, Tadina said movements of armed criminal groups associated with politicians are being monitored to ensure the safe conduct of next year’s elections.

Tadina said signing of a “peace pact” will still be conducted soon in towns and cities known to have seen violence in past elections. (Jerick Pasiliao)
