LINGAYEN Mayor Leopoldo Batoil tested positive for COVID-19.

“I am sad to inform you that I was tested positive for COVID-19 after I underwent an RT-PCR test today because of my cough,” Bataoil said in a Facebook post dawn Friday.

He said he initially thought it was due to fatigue or the (cold) weather.

“But it’s sad that this happened despite the serious ways I am adopting to avoid the virus and strict compliance with the health protocols for the past almost two years, yet I was still positive,” he said.

He added that in his desire to perform his duties and perseverance to serve his townmates, it is unavoidable that he would meet and talk to the people.

Bataoil is hoping that those with whom he had talked to and socialized with the past days are not experiencing symptoms but advised them that if they do, they should isolate themselves based on the Department of Health guidelines “because it is hard to determine who, where and how I got afflicted with the virus”.

As of his posting, he said he was not feeling serious symptoms except occasional coughing.

He said he will continue to give guidance to his department heads to make sure service to the people is unhampered. (Eva Visperas)
