ELEVEN IN REGION 1 AFFECTED

THE regional office of Department of Education Ilocos (DepEd Region 1) suspended the implementation of the pilot-run of the in-person classes of the 11 participating schools in the region that started on January 14.

In Pangasinan, the suspended in-person classes were in Longons Elementary School and the 100 Islands Cowboy Christian Learning Center, both in Alaminos City.

DepEd Ilocos Public Affairs Unit head Cesar Bucsit said the suspension of the face-to-face classes was ordered by the DepEd central office based on a set of guidelines for contingency measures in areas under Alert Level 3 risk classification to counter the persistent threat of COVID-19.

Three provinces in the Ilocos Region  (except Ilocos Sur) were placed under Alert Level 3 until January 31 by the national IATF due to the surge of COVID-19 cases.

Other suspended face-to-face classes are in Ilocos Norte: Dumalneg National High School, Alao-ao Elementary School, Paddagan Elementary School, Dumalneg Elementary School, San Isidro Elementary School, Cacafean Elementary School, Buanga Elementary School, Godogod Elementary School, at Bicbica Elementary School.

He said regional offices were given the discretion to suspend the classes depending on their respective assessment of the situations but the suspension should not exceed two weeks and not to prolong the disruption.

During the suspension, all synchronous and asynchronous classes will be put on hold and submission of academic requirements and conduct of other teaching-related activities were ordered moved by the DepEd to a later date.

During the suspension, the regional DepEd urges eligible teaching personnel and students to get vaccinated against the virus.

Meanwhile, none of those who joined the pilot implementation of classes had contracted COVID-19. (Jerick Pasiliao)
