THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has advised all the candidates for the May 2022 National and Local Elections (NLE) to submit their campaign activities.

At a press conference, Ilocos Region Comelec Assistant Regional director lawyer Reddy Balarbar said the list of campaign activities will be subjected for the approval by an inter-agency committee, as part of the new campaign protocols amid the pandemic.

He said the campaign committee is composed of the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

There will be national, regional, provincial, city or municipal campaign committees that will monitor the campaign activities of the candidates, and it is they who will approve or disapprove scheduled campaign activities of candidates.

Campaign activities include caucuses, house-to-house, and motorcades, among others.

Meanwhile, for the first time in the history of the Philippine elections, the poll body will be hiring medical personnel that will be assigned in voting centers to ensure health and safety measures on May 9 polls.

Balarbar said partitions will also be put in place in between voters, and designated isolation areas will also be established for symptomatic voters.

“The barriers are to protect the electoral board from possible infection and the isolation areas are for voters who exhibit symptoms of the virus,” he said. (Jerick Pasiliao)
