LGUs urged to speed up vaccination

THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) passed a resolution urging all local government units in the province to further intensify their vaccination rollout by simultaneously hitting priority targets to avoid delays and cause backlog in their areas of responsibility.

Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, chair of the SP committee on health, filed the resolution noting from the report of Provincial  Heath Officer Anna de Guzman that some LGUs have adopted a policy to complete first the vaccination of a priority group before attending to other priority groups.

Rosario called on all LGUs to follow the guidelines of vaccination and prioritize A-1, A-2 and A-3 population at the same time using the available vaccines delivered to the province by the Department of Health  (DOH).

The only vaccines made available to the province so far were Sinovac and AstraZeneca and were delivered directly to the province’s six Inter-Local Health Zones (ILHZs), not through the PHO.

The ILHZ are the Western Pangasinan, District Hospital, Lingayen District Hospital, Lingayen District Hospital, Pangasinan Provincial Hospital.

It is the ILHZs that allocates the vaccines to cluster municipalities in their respective areas, and PHO does not have a hand in the allocation of the delivered vaccines, De Guzman added.

Explaining why some LGUs were behind in vaccination, De Guzman said that it is because some municipal and city health offices fail to effectively oversee the rollout because they lack personnel.

She added that some LGUs are being locked down because of incidence of COVID-19 in their ranks. (Leonardo Micua)
