SOCIAL ISSUES AFFECTING YOUTHS

THE Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Malued in Dagupan City launched an advocacy campaign contest creating more awareness on social issues affecting youths via mural painting.

SK Malued chair Jonarch Aquino Jr. said that the project seeks to engage the youths in creating awareness on mental health, bullying, drug addiction, education, among others during the barangay fiesta from April 25 to May 10.

The SK and barangay officials led by Barangay Captain Filipina Delos Santos coordinated with lot owners in their area to use the walls in their front yard for the mural painting contest.

Aquino said residents welcomed the project.

Sitio Coquia in their barangay was very ideal as starting point because of its long stretch of high walls of houses.

The participants, aged 15 to 30 years old, painted on walls that were 2.5 meters wide and 2.8 meters high each of the 10 entries.

All the materials and food of the participants were provided free by the committee and prizes at stake are at P5,000; P3,000 and P2,000 respectively for the first, second and third prizes and P1,000 for the online favorite.

“People are starting to take pictures using the mural paintings as their background and it gives us a sense of fulfillment,” Aquino said. (Eva Visperas)
