TWENTY-nine centenarians in Pangasinan recently received their P100,000 financial assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) from Jan. 1 to March 14, 2021.

Data gathered by The PUNCH from the DSWD Region 1 Office on March 15 showed that these were six centenarians from Manaoag, three each from the towns of San Manuel, San Nicolas, Asingan, San Fabian; two each from Umingan, Tayug, Balungao and Laoac, and one each from Natividad, Sta. Maria and Malasiqui.

They were among the 85 centenarians – Ilocos Norte (29), four in Ilocos Sur (4), La Union (23) – that received the incentive cash assistance from the national government.

Meanwhile, Fifth District Board Member Chinky-Perez Tababa authored the ordinance on Monday during the provincial board’s session citing the centenarians and providing P20,000 as cash incentives for them in addition to the P100,000 each given by the national government to the centenarians under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016.

“We’d like to encourage our senior citizens to stay strong and healthy so they can get their P100,000 from the national government and another P20,000 from the provincial government of Pangasinan,” Tababa said. (Eva Visperas)
