Pangasinan logs 258 new active COVID cases

THE number of active COVID-19 cases in Pangasinan already breached the 400 mark as 258 more new cases and 13 new deaths, were added to the tally in contrast to the 126 cases that recovered during the first week of 2021, according to the monitoring of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
The records showed that as of January 7, there were 438 active COVID-19 cases brought to hospitals and isolation facilities in Pangasinan, bringing the overall total of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the contagion started in mid-March last year to 3,030 and still counting.
There were seven deaths that were recorded on January 7 and three each on January 3 and 4.
While 2,466 patients had recovered and 126 persons had died, PHO believes the cases had remained manageable and proof of this is Pangasinan still retains its Modified General Community Quarantine status till January 31.
True to the prediction of UP OCTA Research, the 258 new cases registered during the first seven days of 2021 indicate that COVID-19 cases have risen and are still rising owing to the penchant of Filipinos for parties and reunions where social distancing protocol and other health protocols are often compromised.
Three of the new cases were noted on January 1; 51 on January 2; 23 on January 3; 46 on January 4; 30 on January 5; 47 on January 7; and 58 on January 7 which was the highest number of cases registered for the week.
Out of the 58 newly confirmed cases on January 7, Dagupan City listed 16.
The sudden spike of cases in Manaoag did not spare the Minor Basilica which had to be closed for disinfection for two days, January 7-8, after some parishioners who went to mass the previous days tested positive for the virus. This development pushed Manaoag with 30 cases to third position from 12th in the COVID-19 watch list of the PHO, trailing Calasiao with 40 cases and Dagupan City, 184.
The last PHO tally shows 37 of the 48 town of Pangasinan or 77 percent are still infected with the virus. Only 11 towns or 23 percent are without a COVID-19 case, namely: Agno, Aguilar, Balungao, Burgo, Infanta, Labrador, Natividad, San Quintin, Sual, Tayug and Villasis. (Leonardo Micua)
