THE Catholic church in Labrador opened its doors again to its parishioners on Jan. 23  after it was temporarily placed under lockdown for a week for disinfection due to COVID-19.

P/Major Mark Tubadeza, town police chief, said in a phone interview that it was the decision of the parish priest of St. Isidore The Farmer Parish to temporarily close it after a  parishioner was confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19.

The patient was admitted in a hospital.

Tubadeza said 11 of the patient’s close contacts had been traced and took swab tests.

Meanwhile, Tubadeza said Mayor Dominador Arenas already issued an executive order re-imposing liquor ban effective Jan. 17.

Arenas cited the alarming increase in the number of persons infected with COVID-19 in the town.

The mayor also issued a separate executive order for the temporary closure of a cockpit arena to prevent the spread of COVID-19. (Eva Visperas)
