Dagupeños’ low confidence on vaccine noted

A CITY councilor of Dagupan revealed that the level of confidence of city residents on scheduled vaccination program is currently very low, blaming it on the Dengvaxia controversy that rocked the nation in the past.

Councilor Dennis Canto, SP chairman on health, revealed this during the virtual session of the city council on January 19, presided by Vice Mayor Bryan Kua.

Citing a random survey he conducted, Canto said there is a need to boost the confidence of the people on the COVID-19 vaccine being procured by the government.

“We will soon have a vaccine but the problem is some of our people are hesitant to be vaccinated and we cannot force people to get vaccinated if they do not want,” Canto said.

He said he hopes the communications plan that Dr. Ophelia Rivera, city’s COVID-19 focal person, is in place to help counter the resistance caused by the furor over Dengvaxia.

Dr. Rivera told the SP’s virtual session that her office is busy preparing for the rollout of the vaccines in the city sometime in March, particularly, retraining of trainors and schedule of inoculation of priority sectors:

First line to be served: 1) Front line workers or health workers from the public and private hospitals and clinics 2) Personnel of the City Social Welfare and Development Office in charge of distributing social amelioration funds, 3) Personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in charge of admitting Persons Deprived of Liberty, 4) DILG personnel and Barangay Health Workers.

Second line: 1) Indigent senior citizens, 2) Other senior citizens 3) Indigent population 4) Personnel of PNP, AFP and Coast Guard. (Leonardo Micua)
