It’s time to get your PhilID (national ID)

WHILE the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has started the campaign for the early registration of  low-income economic households in the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) for the issuance of their free national ID (PhilID), most still do not understand what the national ID is about as mandated by Republic Act No. 11055, otherwise known as the Philippine Identification System Act.

Essentially, the law provides for the issuance of a single national identification as proof of identity for all citizens and resident aliens of the country to be issued by the PhilSys, to simplify public and private transactions that promotes seamless social service delivery and strengthening of financial inclusion for both public and private services.

The free PhilID contains the person’s demographic information, front-facing photograph, PhilSys Card number and QR code but will NOT replace IDs that serve other purposes outside of identification (ex: passport, driver’s license)

PhilID will make it easier for Filipinos to access and apply for social welfare and benefits from the government, eliminates need to present other IDs when transacting with the government and private sector (ex. opening of bank accounts).

To register, PSA will require the following the person’s: full name, date of birth, place birth, blood type, address, Filipino or resident alien, marital status (optional), mobile number and email address and two biometric information that includes front-facing photograph, full set of fingerprints and iris scan.

Information provided for PhilIDare protected by PhilSys Act of 2018 and Data Privacy Act of 2012.

More updates on PhilSys can be obtained at psa.gov.ph/philsys and Facebook (PSAPhilSysOfficial). (PIA-Pangasinan/ VHS)
