Huge economic impact of Sumi-North Philippines cited
BINALONAN AS EPICENTER OF GROWTH
THE Sumi-North Philippines Wiring Corporation (SNPWC) is infusing an initial $40-million investment for the manufacture of automotive wiring harness especially for hybrid cars to jumpstart the vision to make an industrial park in Binalonan.
The project, to be built on the 25-hectare lot allocated for economic zone in Barangay Linmansangan, had its groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 16.
Takeshi Morikawa, SNPWC president told local newsmen that the project is their fourth manufacturing plant in the Philippines, the other three being in Batangas, Tarlac and Bataan.
He expects the project to generate 10,000 jobs to locals and other Pangasinenses.
The first phase of the operations is expected to be operational before end of 2021 and almost 3,000 jobs will be initially offered.
“This would definitely create a huge impact and this will become the epicenter of growth, the impetus of progress in this part of the province,” said Fifth District Rep. Ramon Guico III. It was under his term as a mayor when the investors came to explore the possibility of building the company’s manufacturing plant in the town.
Guico reminisced how Binalonan grew from a simple agricultural town to a progressive university town based on a vision in 2000 when it established a university, a good information and internet connectivity, and improving access to Binalonan.
A Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) exit in the town became the gateway to the pilgrimage town of Manaoag. “Binalonan has become a convergence center,” he said.
For his part, Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico Jr, said the groundbreaking, in partnership with the North Luzon Aero Industrial Park Corp.(NAIP), will pave the way for the establishment of small and medium enterprises and light industrial operations and it will be a source of additional revenue for Binalonan and offer job opportunities to over 10,000 persons.
Jose Miguel Fernandez, NAIP president, added that the project will be the economic gateway to the North where industries will thrive. “We foresee more locators and thriving industries and locators in our industrial park,” he said. (PhilStar Wire Service/ECV)
