THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office 1 has assured the households that there is adequate supply of fish in markets across Region 1 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to BFAR Regional Director Rosario Segundina Gaerlan, fish supply remains adequate throughout the region, with the largest supply coming from the mariculture zone along the Sual, Anda and Bolinao coasts.

She said BFAR is closely monitoring the implementation of the IATF protocol police checkpoints and has noted that the movement and delivery of fish supply to various markets in the region continue to be facilitated by BFAR’s 915 Food Pass and Local Transport Permit.

BFAR has recorded the production so far of 16,023 metric tons of bangus, mussels, tilapia, shrimp, tuna, grouper or lapu-lapu and bagoong with a total value of P1.986 billion.

Her office continues to facilitate the issuance of documents to fish producers for their passage to deliver the fish products to the markets.

Tricycles have also been granted food passes for the benefit of marginal fishermen to transport their produce.

To help local producers and fisherfolks without means of transporting their products to different market, BFAR RO1 provides a refrigerated van for its BFAR Seafood on Wheels that can carry 3 to 4 metric tons of fishermen’s products. (Nora Dominguez)
